WHICH CELEBRITY WOULD YOU LIKE TO DATE
ON VALENTINE'S DAY?
"We were truly surprised
at the results of this survey. In the year 2000, the public's notion of
romance has changed dramatically."

February 1, 2000 - Los
Angeles -
Dateable.com, an Internet-based romance community, has announced the results
of the First Valentine's Day Celebrity Survey to help answer the question:
Which Celebrities Would Americans Choose to Date on the Most Romantic Day
of the Year? More than 300 respondents participated in the survey that
began in early December 1999.
The results were more than
a little surprising. Here are some of the highlights:
Revenge of the Nerds
Of the 10 celebrities included
in the survey, the top contenders were Bill Gates (20.1%) and Drew Carey
(16.5%). Does this mean that nerdy is in vogue? Before the mass-based Internet
explosion, people who used computers were perceived as nerds. Now, people
who don't use computers are looked upon as weird and out-of-touch. As supported
by our survey results, nerdy has simply become more acceptable.
Late Night Loser
While Howard Stern and Jay
Leno are toward the bottom of the heap, the New York-based shock jock is
leading Leno 9.0% to 2.7%, a difference of 6.3%. With the recent split
in the Stern household, this may come as good news. Was Stern seen as more
attractive before the recent split? Unfortunately, we don't have those
results.
Battle of the Old-Timers
Still holding on. Harrison
Ford and Mel Gibson are still in great demand. But, which of these old-timers
come out on top? Ford garnered 12.6% while Gibson followed closely behind
with 11.7%. While Gibson's blue eyes and famous butt remain in demand,
the Aussie is unable to outshine Ford's dashing demeanor.
First Lady Takes First
Position
Does power equal romance?
Hillary Clinton has earned 22% of the vote, followed closely by Shanai
Twain (16.5%). While she may not experience political success this year,
Mrs. Clinton should certainly feel confident about her chances with romantic
success. Move over Monica Lewinsky.
Biggest Upset
In the women's category,
the biggest upset was the Drew Barrymore victory (19.9%) over Jennifer
Lopez (17.7%), Gwineth Paltrow (3.2%), and others. It seems that Barrymore
has made the leap from the impish little girl in Spielberg's ET to one
of Hollywood's light-hearted leading ladies.
Skinny Returns
Melissa Flockhart, despite
large quantities of publicity in recent months, garnered only 2.8% of the
vote, a thin margin over relatively little known Nell Carter.
