I'm Lactose Intolerant, Too!
By Dawn
Chris and I had known each other for years. He was the best friend of my ex-boyfriend's brother Bob. We all used to hang out as a group, but I never really thought of him in that romantic way. He was three years younger than me so I pretty much dismissed him as being the nice guy who was way too young.
Even though my ex-boyfriend Bruce and I broke up years earlier, I always kept in touch with his brother Bob and his sister-in-law Kim. They were close to my age and we had a lot in common. Kim and I had made plans to get together the weekend after Valentines. I met Kim at her house.
Kim, her husband and I were sitting around talking before Kim and I went out. I was explaining to them that I had a hard time meeting guys who had jobs, were not intimidated by my career, lived on their own and had a car. Bob had mentioned that Chris was single and that he fit all the qualities that I wanted in a man. I had to admit he was so cute, even if he was a little young and immature. Looking back to the day that Chris smoked the tires of a rental truck at Bob and Kim's wedding.
Kim and I went shopping, had lunch and had usual girl talk. I didn't think too much about our earlier conversation. After shopping we decided to meet up with Bob back at their house. Bob was on the phone with Chris…he wanted to know if we would like to go to the movies.
So Bob, Kim and I met Chris at the movies. It was so weird that he had call out of the blue. I had mentioned to him that I heard he moved to Pennsylvania and asked him where he had moved to when our eyes just locked. His beautiful green eyes mesmerized me. Why didn't I notice them before? I knew that he had a beautiful smile that could light up a room, but he could communicate with his eyes. It was like he knew what I was thinking. The Wedding Singer began and we all focused our attention to the movie.
After the movie, Chris wanted to know if anyone wanted to go get coffee. Of course I was up for it. Bob and Kim on the other hand were tired and bow out gracefully. Since I was the resident expert on Pennsylvania I tried to find a place to go that would be close to both of our houses. We choose a local diner. He walked me to my car and gave me the most amazing hug. I had chills up and down my spine and started to shiver. Our eyes met and I knew that I had to stop looking at him because otherwise I would be hooked.
I got in my car and floated all the way to the diner. We started to talk about the movie and his new place. Then the waiter came over to take our orders. I ordered to tea and so did he. When the tea came I noticed that he drank his the same way I drank mine - black with no milk or sugar. So I asked him "you don't drink milk either?" He said no, "I can't because I'm lactose intolerant". I said, "no way, so am I!" I thought to myself what was the likelihood of that.
It turned out that Chris and I had so many things in common that I never knew about. That was 4 years ago today. Now we're married and have a dog named Digger. Who would have known?
