Wishes do come true
By Maryellen McEwen
"Hey, so where are we going?" I asked as I jumped into my best friend's truck.
"Can't tell you. It's a surprise!" Josh said with a smile. I smiled back but still wondering where he was taking me on our first date together.
He parked in front of a tall building downtown.
“Where the heck are we?” I stared up at the towering structure in front of me.
“You’ll see. Come on, follow me.” Josh held out his hand and I toke it. He started walking back behind the building. He led me to a fire escape and started to climb up it. “Up here,” he said. Once we reached the top I saw a chair and a telescope. Josh and I walked over to the chair and he bent over to picked up a blanket.
“There is a meteor shower tonight and it starts at 8:30,” he glanced at his wristwatch. “So, that means we can sit down and talk for a few minuets.” We lied down and he pulled the blanket over us. He put his arm around me and my stomach started to flip-flop. But I thought, this was the person I have known for years now, could I be falling in love?
“Have you ever seen a meteor shower?” he asked holding me closer, my heart raced.
“Nope,” I shook my head. “I haven’t even seen a shooting star!”
“Really!” he turned and looked at me. I grinned. We looked at each other for a whill. then i asked what time it was.
“8:32” he said. We both looked up. Within seconds little balls of light started to streak across the moon lit sky.
“Wow!” I said.
“Make a wish!”
“What?”
“Make a wish!”
“Why?”
“Well they’re shooting stars, right?”
“Yah, your point?”
“Make a wish!”
I hesitated but then I closed my eyes and wished. When I opened them Josh was watching me. I stared into his gorgeous blue eyes. He smiled, leaned in and kissed me. My stomach started to flip-flop again. He backed away and I started to giggle.
“What, am I that bad of a kisser?” he asked.
“No, It’s just, my wish came true.” I looked back up and Josh was beaming. He kissed me again and I new for sure I was in love.
