Too Much Cheating
By Ashlee
She knew he knew. As soon as he walked through the door with a stone-cold look in his eyes, she knew he knew what she'd done.
He looked all around the room, and when he spotted her, she saw a muscle in his jaw begin to work. He slowly walked over to her.
"We need to talk," he whispered between clenched teeth.
She was grateful for the loud throbbing music at the party.
She looked into his deep blue eyes and shuddered inside. What would he do? Would he yell? Would he curse? Would he... hit her?
"Maybe we should talk later when--"
"No," he said loudly. "Now."
She looked up at him again and then down at her drink. "Okay," she whispered. She stood up slowly, straightening out her pink and black shin-high dress.
He turned away from her and walked to a room. All the way to the room, he murmured, "Excuse me. Excuse me."
When they were finally alone, he turned to look at her. He held up a letter.
"What is this?" he asked quietly. His voice was unusually controlled.
She squinted and reached out. "Let me--"
He moved it out of her reach. He opened the letter. She gulped hard.
"'Darling Andra,'" he read. "'I've missed you dearly, and I wish we could meet on more occassions, but you're husband's around too much.'" He stopped reading.
She gulped. "Mike, it's not what you think--"
He interrupted her by reading further. "'I love you and I miss you.' Blah, blah, blah. 'I still remember how it felt to make love to you. Wasn't that something else? And i really meant what I said. I do want to marry you.'"
When Mike looked up, his eyes were two blue fires. He didn't say anything for a long moment, and neither did she.
"You slept with him," he whispered hoarsely. She could see his eyes misting and she held her breath. "You slept with him," he whispered again.
"Mike, I didn't mean... I thought--" She felt the sudden hard sting from his fist fly across her cheek. She looked at him astounded, and this time, the blow went to her other cheek.
She immediately sank to the floor. She looked up and saw him hovering over her, his fist held up high.
"...I could help you..." She finished the sentence.
She saw his face turn a pale color. Before she knew it, he dashed out the door.
She sat there for a moment alone, shedding all the tears that had formed in her eyes.
She'd lost him. She knew it.
*A month later*
She jumped when she heard a knock at her door.
It's Mike, she thought. I know it is.
But deep down inside she was scared to admit that maybe it wasn't. Why would he come back to her anyway, right?
She opened the door slowly and willed her heart not to jump out of her throat when she saw Mike leaning up against the doorjamb.
She said nothing and neither did he as they checked eaach other out.
She noticed how his eyes lingered on the top part of her tank top. She knew the cleavage was there, and she felt herself blushing.
Finally, he said, "Hey."
She tried to look him in the eye, but decided to leave her gaze on his forehead. "Hey," she whispered.
"Look," he began after a moment's silence. "I came here to say that I'm sorry for the way I reacted when... when... you slept with that guy."
She felt the heat rise in her cheeks. "It's okay. You didn't have to... apologize."
"Yeah, well, I wanted to."
She stood there for a moment, awkwardly, until she felt Mike move close to her.
His palms were soon on the cheeks that had just a few days ago turned back to their natural color.
He was moving closer to her still and she could feel his breath on her cheek. She slowly tilted her head up to his mouth and closed her eyes in ectasy as his lips found hers.
Soon she was in his arms, crawling up his body, and before she knew it... she was getting carried to the bedroom...
*THREE MONTHS LATER...*
Mike and Sky Summers remarried. They had 4 kids. Twin girls and two boys. Sky learned her lesson of too much cheating.
