Mercy

A thousand times I have missed you
and some of those times
while you were still near
now I search for you in all others
as I glance down the darkened streets
and set my gaze at the starlit sky
How must I repay you, love
for the daylight you brought to me
from your inner world
of magnificent depth and beauty
for now I finally realize
it is every day I live
that I slowly die
What does it take for me
not to be me
to stop these vigilant hands
that find no solitude in sleep
to cease this heart from circling the thin air
like a vulture
waiting for night to fall
to help blind these eyes
that seem to peel away
at my every emotion
and clear my vacant mind
now your ghost town
made of cardboard and fresh paint
It is my turn to cry, my love
those searing tears of rebirth
and self discovery
hoping to shed these thoughts
of a lifeless life without you
like a violinist in search of his bow
each new month that passes
bringing a constant reminder
that you have stolen the seasons
I have called my own
and so I lie here, naked
in the holiest of streams
waiting, to drift away
to another feminine ocean
