Just to know you are returning home.
I’ll open up and wait.
A gift to me.
A statement from you .
Just your hand on my neck;
Or breath on my ear.
A truer sweetness for my arms to wrap
Is worth a wait of any measure.
And in any harsh shadow if your face is dimmed,
I know that the sun will pull closer too us.
All it’s fires are colder when beamed with the warmth of your smile that breaks;
When I say, “Welcome home. You're with me now.”
Though there is some journey yet to travel;
For if your body is not against mine,
than your distance to home is still mere inches.
And when you’re finally close, I can breathe inside again.
