On Friendship
By Leslie E. Ross

When darkly looms thine every day,
When tears are shed at night
When heartache grips thee in its sway
And allies drop from sight,
When every hope seems all but gone
And Heaven hears not thy plea
Then turn to one who truly cares
Thy burden, share with me.
I'll hold theegently in my arms
And soothe thy fevered brow
I'll wipe away thy bitter tears
And Love for thee avow.
Though even family turn from thee
And vows of true love end,
With never failing constancy
Shall I remain -
Thy friend
